Critical vulnerability on Apple devices puts crypto at risk

Kaspersky , a digital security company, recently warned its users about drastic security flaws in Apple-branded devices. Two distinct vulnerabilities make both iPhones and iMacs and Macbooks vulnerable targets.

Users of Apple devices should therefore urgently install the latest version of the software. The security bugs are fixed from macOS 13.3.1. All versions from iOS 16.4.1 are safe again on mobile devices.

Security updates are also available for older software versions, writes Kaspersky. If you are not using the latest drivers, you should still update.

Specifically, the errors are named CVE-2023-28205 and CVE-2023-28206 . They allow so-called zero-click exploits. In this way, hackers can gain complete access to devices, even if their owners are not at fault.

The attackers open phishing websites via their victims’ devices. Without users noticing anything, malware is downloaded in the background, which can then read all the information on the device.

Crypto users are particularly affected. The hackers could potentially gain access to crypto wallets installed on the devices and then send the funds to their own addresses. The victims then lose their assets unseen.

How do you protect yourself reliably?

The vulnerability is so drastic that Apple quickly developed security updates after it was discovered, which have been available since the day before yesterday. If you are using an older iPhone or iPad that does not support the latest software, you must install version 15.7.5 to be safe from attacks.

The same applies to Mac. Older devices require either version 11.7.6 or 12.6.5 . In addition, an additional update for the web browser Safari must be installed.
