ESMA is independent financial market regulator European Union (EU), which is responsible for ensuring stability of the EU financial system by strengthening investor protection and development of stable and orderly financial markets.
As an independent body of the EU, ESMA is fully accountable
to the European Parliament, where he reports to the Committee on
Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON). In addition, ESMA
reports to the EU Council and the European Commission.
ESMA, together with the EBA, EIOPA and the European Council on Systems
risk management (ESRB) form the European Financial Supervisory System (ESFS).
