Bhutan is a Buddhist kingdom on the southern border of the eastern Himalayas, which is famous for its monasteries, dzong fortresses and varied terrain – from subtropical plains to highland valleys and steep mountains. Numerous peaks of the Himalayas, such as Jomolhari with a height of 7326 m, attract lovers of mountain climbing. Also popular with tourists is the Taktsang Lhakhang Monastery (also known as the Tigress’s Nest) on a cliff top overlooking the wooded Paro Valley.
